Sparkles Are For Life, Not Just For Christmas!

23 October 2020

It might feel a bit early to be talking about Christmas and you might think you won’t bother wearing any sparkle this year because you’re not going to be attending parties like you usually would. But I say all the more reason to dress up and add some sparkle in your life! I love the below pieces if you want to go full on with your sequins for the festive season.

Why not take inspiration from the Pinterest image below, going extra on your top half with a pussy bow blouse and your bottom half with sequin trousers? I found preloved alternatives from ebay and Depop to recreate this outfit.

I’m also a big believer in sequins and sparkle being a year round wardrobe staple, rather than just something that is saved for best. They’re actually really versatile and can be dressed up or down, giving you lots of outfits from one item. One of my favourite looks for a sequin skirt is to team it with a band t shirt and some white trainers, with a leather jacket or coat in the winter or a denim jacket in the spring/summer. You could also consider a check or denim shirt a la Holly Willoughby pictured below. Or cosy up in a chunky knit on Christmas Day with a sequin skirt, to add that touch of glamour to a winter outfit at home.

The great thing about sequins is they don’t really date or go out of fashion, there is always a way to update them through the way you style them, with the other items in your wardrobe. I have a pair of glitter trainers from Air & Grace brought from The Dressing Room a couple of years ago, that I’ve worn in so many different ways. Check out my instagram for some examples. They make me so happy adding a bit of sparkle to otherwise simple outfits. That’s my favourite thing about a bit of sparkle - it’s an instant mood booster no matter the season!

Another simple way to dress down your sequins is to wear a sequin top back with blue denim - boyfriend or straight leg jeans with white trainers. Or as pictured below, with heels, if you wanted to dress it up a bit more for an evening out. You can do the reverse with sequin trousers too, pair back your top half with a cashmere sweater or slogan jumper, for a high low mix.

Sequins are perfect right now for the never ending zoom work, or evening get together calls. They are a great talking point and will make you stand out on screen. But this can also be achieved in a subtle way, for example with the black panelled knit from Chloe James Lifestyle below.

Why not try and hunt down a bargain preloved for a more sustainable choice? Above are my top 4 favourite vintage and preloved sequin finds from Closet Concierge London, Edit Secondhand and Beyond Retro.

Preloved Fashion Sequins (top left and right both Edit Secondhand, bottom left Beyond Retro, bottom right Closet Concierge London) I hope this has helped to share a few options on how to style sequins and sparkle in your wardrobe everyday rather than just for special occasions.
